The Emergency Food and Services Program
In 2005/2006, the Division served 15,400 un-duplicated individuals and families with emergency food, clothing, and hygiene items. 5 homeless families were assisted through our Short Term Transitional Housing (Ashley House) and transitioned into affordable permanent housing. 213 homeless individuals (130 at the 13th Annual Stand Down for the Homeless) were assisted to apply for and 160 obtained a certified copy of their Birth Certificate. 295 individuals received case management services in conjunction with direct financial assistance. 591 non-duplicated individuals received direct financial employment support to include transportation assistance. 239 non-duplicated households received direct financial rental assistance for homeless prevention. 63 non-duplicated households received utility assistance to prevent service termination, 14 were assisted through Project Reach, and 48 were assisted to complete EAP applications. 1 family was accepted into the TBRA Housing Program and is able to stay in housing for up to two years. 482 children and 60 seniors were recipients of our 2006 Holiday Gift Program. 325 families were assisted with Holiday Food Baskets. 185 children were assisted with backpacks and school supplies. 81 individuals were assisted through PATH. 87,387 lbs of in-kind food were recovered.
Supportive Housing Program
The program will serve 9 families annually and will actively monitor case plans to ensure compliance and movement towards self-sufficiency. Weekly home visits are conducted to provide onsite assistance with housekeeping and family management. Sense of community meetings are conducted monthly and work to more fully invest residents in the goals of their case plans and their community.
Making Access Possible
MAPP will assist 500 children through eligibility screening with direct application assistance for the Nevada Check-up program. Additionally, the project will serve 1,000 children through health and nutrition fairs.
Project 4 Youth Program
In fiscal year 2005-2006, 120 participants were served. There was a reported 15% decrease in use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and an increase in knowledge about the effects of alcohol, tobacco and other illicit drugs. There was a 5% increase in the number of developmental assets reported by the child and 45% of parents reported an increase in communication with their child immediately after program completion. 500 hours of community service hours were completed with many of the youth reporting a positive experience while conducting program service projects.
Parenting Wisely Program
In fiscal year 05-06, the program served 169 parents, 44 through interactive computer based programming at LSSN and 169 through in person classes through Southern Nevada Area Health Education Center. The program is currently collecting program outcome data, with tentative reports showing an increase in parental knowledge of issue relating to parenting and increased parental involvement with their children.
Katrina Aid Today - Long Term Recovery Program
123 individuals and families were assisted through our initial Hurricane Relief Effort in the fall of 2005. 92 families have participated in long term recovery case management activities to date through the Katrina Aid today project. Many of these individuals have reached case plan goals; many have either relocated back to their homes in the gulf coast or have settled into the Southern Nevada community.
