For over 10 years, LSSN operated a grocery store-style, client-choice food pantry in Las Vegas, allowing homeless and low-income shoppers to feel dignified and choose the food they want to eat. Then in 2016, LSSN decided to go a step further and launched DigiMart, the first fully online digital food pantry in the country. DigiMart is the logical next step for LSSN’s client-choice physical food pantry, as clients are able to access the online food ordering system from their homes, desktop kiosks at LSSN, libraries, anywhere they are with an electronic device that is connected to Internet.
Each year, about half a million pounds of nutritious food is given out to support thousands of our community members through DigiMart. A wide variety of meats, vegetables, fruits, dairy, bread and pastries as well as non-perishable food items are provided to those in need.
If you are interested in becoming a client of DigiMart, please visit our office Monday through Thursday at 10:00 a.m. to sign up.
If you are a current client of DigiMart, please click here to access DigiMart. Please enter your user name in the appropriate box to log in.
If you would like to invest in this program or if you would like to donate food items, please contact Tristan Hightower at email@example.com.
DigiMart’s current operational hours are:
Hours: Mondays: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (first 20 people in line)
Tuesdays: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (first 20 people in line)
Wednesdays: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (first 20 people in line)
Thursdays: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (first 20 people in line)
Please do not line up outside the building before 9:45 a.m.
How DigiMart Works
The first step in becoming a client of DigiMart is visiting LSSN Monday – Thursday at 10:00 a.m. to begin the intake process. Once you are signed up, you will be given a unique username that will allow you to access the DigiMart system.
Once you log on, click on the icon above the word “SHOP”. Once you are in the system, your computer monitor, tablet, or smartphone will display pictures of all of the food items that are currently available. From here, you can add the items you want to your cart and modify the amount of each item that you would like from there. DigiMart will also keep track of how many points your household is given to shop with every month and how many are remaining as you add items to your cart.
Once your order is complete, you can check out! A receipt of your order is sent to a computer in the DigiMart Pantry, where staff and volunteers bag or box the food up and have it ready for you to pick up.
If you order from a DigiMart kiosk at LSSN, your wait will be around 15 minutes. If you order from home, you will be able to pick up your order on the next business day (Tuesday –Thursday) from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
DigiMart Points and SWAP Colors
The users of the DigiMart system are assigned points that are used like money to “purchase” food. Clients are not charged to use the DigiMart program, and the points are replenished every 30 days.
A key component of DigiMart is that food that has a higher nutritional value costs fewer points, while items that are less nutritious cost more. For example, a can of reduced-sodium chicken noodle soup might cost two points, but a can of regular chicken noodle soup with a much higher salt content might cost five points. With this, DigiMart hopes to encourage clients to make healthy choices while also maintaining their freedom of choice.
Since April 2019, DigiMart has also utilized the SWAP (Supporting Wellness at Pantries) food ranking system, which uses a food’s nutritional content to assign it a color value. Green items are the most healthy, and should be part of your daily diet. Yellow items should be consumed in moderation, and red items should be consumed only sparingly.
DigiMart Service – 10 am each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The pantry will close when it reaches the 20th client of the day. First come, first serve.
