Several school administrators nearby our Boulder Highway location have reached out to us to ask what services we can provide to some of their families in distress. There are five elementary schools within a one mile radius. We normally do an Easter basket drive for our clients but this year we wanted to do something beyond giving them a basket and invite families from these local schools. What are some adjectives that we use to describe our Egg Hunt and Resource Fair? Well it was wild and it was joyful. There were screaming competitions, dance offs, golden eggs, kids getting their vision tested, hair being cut, dental resources being handed out, kids books, mentoring connections, fancy Easter baskets, former NFL stars, bagels, Starbucks coffee, a giant bunny, and much more. It was our first event of this kind in LSSN history but it won’t be our last! Our Back to School event this summer is going to be even better-brace yourself!
Update after the event: We were able to serve about 380 children from 240 families with multiple resources! It was on the local news on NBC channel 3, CBS channel 8, and Fox 5 (see clip here). Thanks to everyone that made this happen; it was an example of many people coming together to help under served families and children.
