Gratitude and grace-sharing
Each year, LSSN receives Easter baskets from different churches, senior communities and partner organizations. We distribute the baskets to the families we serve as well as to other community organizations and churches for distribution. We feel great joy at giving the children a bright and happy Easter basket to enjoy.
Socktober
For the past two years, Kids at Lamb of God Lutheran School collect new socks during their “Socktober” drive for Lutheran Social Services of Nevada. Members of the school’s Student Council (third- through fifth-graders) and their adviser, teacher Kristin Lundy, presented LSSN staff with the four bags of socks totaling 657 pairs!
Lamb of God kindergartners through fifth-graders and their families collected a wide range of socks for adults and children during October. LSSN is grateful for the socks, which will be included in Christmas gift packages for our client families with children. We hope that this is the beginning of an ongoing long-term tradition.
Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner
Every November, LSSN collects and assembles Thanksgiving food boxes containing a turkey and fixings for people in need. We receive these items from our partner churches thanks to generous donations from their congregation members as well as from our community partner, Three Square.
The highlight of our Holiday Program is our end of the year Christmas Toy Drive. We collect names of families in need from our local partner churches and agencies. The toys come in from individual donors and local toy drives such as the annual one done by Chet Buchanan KLUC 98.5. Our Service Managers Cherry and Maria then begin the daunting task of collecting and analyzing data on each child – age, favorite color, gift wish list, clothing sizes, favorite colors, etc. They work tirelessly to go through all the donated toys and gifts to match each child with as much of that child’s wish list as closely as possible. Afterwards, they contact the parents to arrange pickup or even delivery of these items.
